June 5 - Lambs Canyon Rd

Beautiful sunny day with highs in the low 80s.

After work I decide to go scout my favorite butterfly trail - the Mormon Trail. I should be already walking that trail but last winter beavers moved into a nearby stream a flooded the entry trail (and that was an awesome snowfall year). With record snowfall this year,  I haven't even tried but I'm going to tonight. There are bflies flying (including my Relict Frit; it flies every June 1 since I've moved here).

The dirt road to the trail is in pretty good shape. But the stream is running pretty high from the snowmelt. I'm not encouraged.

I pull in the parking lot and start up the lead-in trail, cross the bridge and there's water. A nice stream flowing. Not sure what it looks farther ahead but it does look passable with some water proof shoes/boots. I don't have those now; I'll be back soon.

On my home, I decide to walk the Lambs Canyon road. It's not out of my way and it's a nice walk. It's only 4:15 and the road is still mostly in the sun. Let's go!

The Wild Cherry trees are now blooming.

As are the Woodland Stars - a small white flower; the bright yellow Wallflower

and Solomon's Seal.

And I'm seeing a fair number of Blues. The ones I look at are Western Tailed Blues.

Also seeing a few Painted Ladies, Orangetips and a couple of Large Marbles.

I'm glancing thru the Blues when I see a darker flyer. I spot and it lands. Holy cow! It's a Sheridan's Hairstreak - can't miss the green color! (Second one I've ever seen in Lamb's Canyon!) Unfortunately, it flies before I can take a photo :(

I reach the water/mud section and start seeing Rocky Mt Duskywing,

more WTBs w/ a Spring Azure

a Two-banded Skipper

a few Anise Swallowtails

and my first Mustard White of the year!

Continuing, I see a Mourning Cloak basking on the road.

I reach the parking lot and check out the mud -- WTB and some Anise Swallowtails.

Time to go home. Good walk!
